Ever since my girls were quite small, I always dressed them with pinafores and it still is one of my favourite garments for them. It’s a classic that always looks good and never gets old, at least for me!
When I started sewing, I couldn’t easily find pinafores patterns. I was lucky to have been gifted this one that I adore, but unfortunately, only goes up to size 6. Recently I tried a couple of new pinafore patterns and liked both very much, each in its own style and the girls have been wearing them a lot. So, when I saw that there was a new pattern, I had to try it.
The pattern is the Ring Around the Rosie by Puzzle Patterns. This pattern is part of their debut collection and I came across them through Susana, that tested a few items from this collection.
The pattern is available as pinafore skirt from sizes 12-18 months to 10 years and as a romper for sizes 12-18 months up o size 5 years. Both pinafore and romper have two strap options, with and without ruffled straps.
I made for M a simple version without ruffles, in size 7 with 6 for width, using a viyella from Ratucos.
I really like how it looks, but I believe I could have sized down at the width. Maybe a size 7 with 5 would look even better.
I didn’t make the ruffled version yet, but I didn’t resist adding some lace. For F, I made a size 8 with 6 for width and used some lace on the straps’ side seams.
Again, for this version I used a viyella from Ratucos. I am not sure if this kind of fabric would work well for the ruffle… maybe a light weight fabric will work better, I think.
I like that the straps are adjustable at the back. The pattern is for 3 buttonholes, but I’ve only made two and used wooden buttons in both versions.
I can already picture a linen version with ruffles for summer. 😊 I know it’s still a long way to go and we just had snow and it’s freezing cold, but I can’t resist thinking about warmer days…
Hope you’re not as late as I am with Christmas preparations. 😉
